Yes A Gaffe - By The Commentariat

AS Jessica Alba is the face of Revlon, this may well be the face of smug liberal ineptitude. It's Alexander Belenky of the leftist Guardian. He's commenting on John McCain's remarks in Jordan connecting Iran to Al Qaeda. This was obviously a "senior moment," the snooty header sarcastically sniffs. "This partnership would be a bit curious, since Iran is predominantly Shia while al-Qaida is Sunni," Belenky writes. Curious partnerships in war - that would be positively inconceivable. Belenky mustn't be au fait with this finding of the 9/11 Commission's report: "The relationship between al Qaeda and Iran demonstrated that Sunni-Shia divisions did not necessarily pose an insurmountable barrier to cooperation in terrorist operations." The New York Times also misrepresents the larger story. Michael Goldfarb has more.

Update: Barack Obama on Senator John McCain's non-"gaffe":

Just yesterday, we heard Senator McCain confuse Sunni and Shiite, Iran and Al Qaeda.

Just yesterday, we heard Obama confuse Jeremiah Wright with his grandmother. And who can forget his mastery of nuclear policy?

I think it would be a profound mistake for us to use nuclear weapons in any circumstance ... involving civilians ... Let me scratch that ... There's been no discussion of nuclear weapons. That's not on the table.

So why did he table it? Can we blame his grandmother? Yes we can!
